Her family then moved to a farm near Bancroft, Iowa. She attended country school in rural Jackson until the 4th grade. She was baptized at Belmont Lutheran Church in rural Jackson, Minnesota. Audrey Mae Gabel, daughter of Arthur and Betty (Dixon) Bergum was born Jin Estherville, Iowa. His last wish was to make sure that no one else has to struggle from head trauma like he did. He always made sure they knew that he had their back. He loved spending time with his brothers, Myles and Levi, and his many friends. He was an overachiever, even when the odds were against him.

He never settled for average, had an extremely hard work ethic and always set new goals. His larger than life spirit was uplifting for everyone who knew him. Zac was kind, loving, compassionate, generous and had a selfless soul.
